Discovery Channel’s Breaking Magic Host Nate Staniforth to be featured at The Curtain Raiser
Cedar Rapids, Iowa (July 19, 2016) – Theatre Cedar Rapids, 102 3rd Street SE, is holding its Fall Kickoff Event, The Curtain Raiser. The event is scheduled for Saturday, August 20 beginning at 6:00 pm and is sponsored by Banker’s Trust.
The black tie optional event themed #TCRmagic begins with a cocktail party and a brief season preview including director’s notes and performances. Immediately following the season preview, Magician Nate Staniforth takes the stage for a 1 ½ hour show that will serve as your guide for finding more wonder in life. Staniforth is a magician, writer, traveler and host of the Discovery Channel’s international hit series Breaking Magic.
Not a typical magic show, Staniforth abandons the common style-without-substance performance typically associated with magic and appeals instead to the imagination and intellect of his audience.
One reporter tweeted after seeing Staniforth’s show, “I just caught a Nate Staniforth show and now I have no idea what to believe about anything anymore.” No rabbits. No top hats. No smoke machines. Staniforth’s show feels more like jumping out of an airplane than a night at a comedy club.
Staniforth’s show is designed for an adult audience and is not recommended for people under the age of 14 due to the intense nature of some of the illusions.
Tickets to the event include the cocktail party featuring appetizers, sweets, select complimentary beer and wine as well as a cash bar available throughout the evening. Dress is black tie optional. Event tickets are $50 if purchased by July 31 and $60 after that date. Group packages are also available.
